Employee Contribution to Full Cost of Family Employer-Sponsored Health Insurance as a Share of Median Household Income
The employee contribution to a family employer-sponsored health insurance plan refers to the premium amount (in dollars) that the employee is required to contribute to health insurance coverage for his/her family.
Median household income is a measure of the income of the exact “middle” household (half of the households in the sample make more, half make less). The figure includes the earnings of all those in a household over the age of 15.
The share of median household income spent on the employee’s share of an family employer-sponsored health insurance plan measures what part of a household’s budget has to be spent to pay their portion of a family employer-sponsored health insurance plan.
