State Spending on Medicaid & SCHIP
Medicaid provides health insurance to low-income Americans. It is administered and financed through a federal-state partnership. Eligibility varies by state. Medicaid also includes individuals covered though the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), which covers low-income children (and some adults) who are ineligible for Medicaid. SCHIP is also financed through a federal-state partnership. The data relfect this joint financing.

The most current information on state Medicaid spending is the 2007 estimates from National Association of State Budget Officers (NASBO).
