Annual Rate of Growth: Full Cost of Individual Employer-Sponsored Health Insurance vs. Median Annual Wage
The full cost of individual employer-sponsored health insurance measures the total premium paid for the average health insurance plan offered by an employer for employee-only coverage. (This includes the share of the premium paid by the employer and employee).
Median annual wage is the measure of the annual salary (or hourly wage times hour worked) of the single individual at the exact middle of the wage distribution (half of the individuals in the sample make more, half make less).
The annual rate of growth for each measure is based on historical data spanning 10 years from 1997 to 2006. The 2016 projections of the full cost of individual employer-sponsored health insurance and the median annual wage are constructed by applying these compounded annual growth rates.
