Obesity
Obesity and overweight are labels for ranges of weight that are greater than what is considered healthy for a given individual’s height. These ranges are determined using a person’s weight and height to calculate his or her “body mass index” a measure which, for most people, correlates with their amount of body fat.
A person is considered obese if they have a BMI of 30 or higher.
A person is considered overweight if they have a BMI between 25 and 29.9.
A person is considered neither overweight nor obese if they have a BMI below 25
Being overweight or obsess is associated with an increased risk for many chronic diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and some cancers.
